Harriniva Hotels & Safaris is the first in Finland to launch a sauna world based on ecological and sustainable tourism.

Finnish tourism company Harriniva Hotels & Safaris is expanding their offering in Muonio. Harriniva launches the Arctic Sauna World – resort right by the lake Jeris, next to the Pallas-Ylläs National Park. Arctic Sauna World is highly ecological wellness center based on Finnish mythology and folktales. It will be the only one of its kind in Finland and Northern Europe.

Arctic Sauna World is located in Muonio, right by the crystal clear lake Jeris, next to the Pallas-Ylläs National Park where according to the WHO studies has the cleanest air in the world for an inhabited area. The Arctic Sauna World offers five different saunas, as well as a variety of experience and wellness showers, relaxation areas, massages and treatments and an ice hole swimming area. Arctic Sauna World opens its doors on December 1st 2019.

Spring water in the showers

Arctic Sauna World uses fully renewable energy sources: the premises are heated with geothermal heating from the lake and by collecting the used warm shower waters. All electricity used is renewable wind, water or solar energy. The water in all the showers and taps is from a nearby underground spring waters, full of minerals and therefore excellent for showering as well as drinking. Food and drinks served in the Arctic Sauna World are from local ingredients.

Saunas straight from Finnish mythology

Arctic Sauna World is built around the four elements: earth, water, air and fire. “The four elements are well-known all over the world and we have built the sauna experience around them, where the guests can feel whole and grounded in the natural relaxation and wellbeing. For Finns sauna is a place of relaxation, physical and spiritual cleaning, a place to connect with others or yourself in a quiet meditation. Our four saunas represent the four elements and are named after four ancient gods from Finnish mythology: Tapio, Ukko, Ilmatar and Vellamo.” explains Harriniva Ltd CEO and representative of the family businesses in third generation Niina Pietikäinen.

Sauna of four steams and infrared sauna

Tapio, the King of the Forest and the spirit of the Earth sauna, gives a unique experience of a traditional sauna where the steam room is divided in four sections following the four directions and giving four different temperatures.

Ukko, the king of the old Gods, rules over the oldest and most traditional of the saunas: the smoke sauna, which gives you an experience of the traditional sauna culture.

Vellamo, the Goddess of Water, rules over the panorama sauna 3 meters above the ground, that has an amazing view over the lake Jeris. This sauna has a peaceful atmosphere and a mild, humid temperature inviting you to relax and stay longer inside the sauna.

Ilmatar – the Goddess of Air, rules over the air sauna, that has no thick walls or fiery steam. Unique infrared sauna offers peaceful and soft heat with a relaxing room that takes you to the Finnish summer with sounds of nature and bright light therapy.

Private Northern Light sauna – Repo

Repo is the mystical Fire fox of the Lappish mythology, which runs over the snowy fells lighting the sky with the sparks of its tale. Repo sauna is a two-story sauna dedicated for watching the Northern Lights, with 180 degrees view over the lake Jeris right from the sauna steam room and a 360-panorama view to the night sky from the upstairs relaxing room, built completely out of glass in a shape of a Lappish kota or tepee.
