Husky Expedition (5 days)

Travel deep into the Arctic wilderness on a five-day husky expedition, driving and caring for your own team of sled dogs. Each day you cover around 25 km through snowy landscapes, with lunch prepared outdoors over an open fire. Everyone takes part in the daily tasks during the expedition, including caring for the dogs and supporting camp routines together with the guide. Evenings are spent in traditional wilderness huts with shared sleeping quarters, no electricity, and traditional saunas.

3. How do airport transfers work?

We arrange return transfers between Kittilä Airport or Kolari Railway Station and your resort. Share your flight numbers and arrival and departure times as soon as possible, so we can arrange your pick-up and transfer schedule.

4. What should I pack ?

You should pack these base and mid-layers:

  • long thermal underwear
  • thin turtleneck pullover
  • fleece or woollen shirt and trousers
  • thick, warm pullover
  • warm woollen or thermal socks (avoid cotton socks and nylon tights)
  • thin gloves to wear under the thick gloves provided
  • thick winter hat or beanie
  • scarf or snood for neck and face

  • bathing suit (needed for Arctic Sauna World or if you would like to visit the outdoor jacuzzi at Harriniva Adventure Resort)

No. Discover the Wilderness packages is designed for adults only.

7. Do I need prior husky or wilderness experience?

No previous husky experience is required. Your guide teaches you how to handle the sled and work with your team before the expedition begins.

8. What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations and changes for both online bookings and bookings made through our sales team are handled according to Harriniva Hotels & Safaris’ General Terms & Conditions. Please review the terms before confirming your booking, and contact us if you need to discuss changing your dates.

9. What meals are included, and can you cater for dietary needs?

Meals are included on a full board basis during your stay. Complimentary coffee and tea are also included.

12. What is the 5-day husky expedition like, and will I drive my own team?

The expedition is five days on the trail. Each participant drives and cares for their own husky team during the journey.

13. How physically demanding is this package?

This is a physically demanding expedition-style holiday for adults only. Days outdoors are long, and you will be active on the trail and around the dogs.

14. What will I do each day, do guests participate in daily tasks?

Yes. Everyone takes part in daily routines during the expedition, including caring for the dogs and helping with shared camp tasks together with the guide.

15. What happens if the weather changes?

Harriniva Hotels & Safaris may adjust timetables and programmes due to weather, safety, or other unforeseen reasons.  Routes and schedules may change due to weather and conditions. Safety comes first, and the guide adapts the plan when needed.

16. Can I add extra activities before or after the expedition?

Often yes, subject to availability and your travel schedule. If you want to add activities, tell us your preferences and timing when you request availability. We also recommend booking a few extra nights before and/or after the expedition to make the most of your stay in Lapland.

18. What are the wilderness overnights like?

Overnight stays are in traditional wilderness cabins with shared facilities. Comfort is simple, and conditions are part of the expedition experience.

19. Can I store luggage at the resort during the expedition?

Yes, you can leave non-essential luggage at the resort while you are out on the expedition. Pack a smaller bag for the wilderness nights.

20. What happens if I want to discontinue the expedition, or if there is an emergency?

If you discontinue for non-emergency reasons, an evacuation/transport fee applies. In an emergency, we follow safety procedures and arrange assistance as needed.
