The Harriniva story

Family-owned Lapland adventure pioneer since 1973.

Harriniva Hotels & Safaris is a family-owned tourism business in Muonio, Lapland, Finland.

What began in 1973 as a simple camping and caravan ground on the bank of Europe’s longest free-flowing river, the Tornion-Muonionjoki, is now an adventure holiday specialist with three full-service resorts nestled in pure Lapland nature: Harriniva Adventure Resort, Jeris Lakeside Resort and Torassieppi Eco Reindeer Resort.

Growth through pioneering winter adventures

The Pietikäinen family business is now in its third generation. Started by Hansi and Eini Pietikäinen in the 70’s, the company experienced major growth in the 90’s under son Kyösti and his wife Maija.

Thanks to Kyösti’s legwork and salesmanship, Harriniva was one of the first Lapland travel businesses that offered winter adventures and the first to create an all-inclusive week-long adventure program for tourists.

Daily work towards “Best in Wilderness”

To his children now running the show, Kyösti left a thriving business well-recognized within the travel industry.

The dedicated staff at Harriniva Hotels & Safaris work hard every day to live up to the company slogan, “Best in Wilderness”.

To guests, this is best manifested by the expert Harriniva guides that lead people to Lapland nature for extraordinary experiences throughout the year.

Nature’s wonders are still the same and attractive as ever

A lot has changed in half a century, but many things have stayed the same. The fell and forest scenery in Muonio and the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park is still as beautiful as ever, only now there are more ways to experience the pure nature.

Whichever of the three Harriniva Hotels & Safaris resorts you stay in, activities and adventures start right at your door.

Natural phenomena like the Northern Lights and the Midnight Sun, the Polar Night and Autumn Leaf Colour still take your breath away and keep attracting visitors from near and far.

We at Harriniva Hotels & Safaris still do our best for our guests to have the adventure of their lifetime in Lapland – and hope to see them again in Muonio one day.
