Under the aurora oval

The northern lights are not spread evenly across the Arctic. They form a ring around the magnetic pole – the auroral oval – and it sits at its most active over roughly 67–70° north. Muonio is at 68° located straight under the lady aurora.

Statistically we see auroras in Muonio every second night. You can spot auroras from our professionally organized aurora hunts, or if lucky straight from the resort yard!

In the heart of Lapland

Muonio is a small village on the river that divides Finland from Sweden, 170 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. Muonio is home for the most famous national park of Finland, Pallas-Yllästunturi national park. Snowy trees, open fells and cleanest air in the world is the reason why Muonio is the happiest village of Lapland.
