Snowmobile Expedition (5 days)

Ride deep into Lapland’s fell landscapes on a true expedition-style snowmobile journey, travelling the route Muonio–Kilpisjärvi–Muonio. Each participant drives their own snowmobile throughout the expedition, with long days on the trail and changing scenery from frozen lakes to wide-open fells.

1. Who is this Lapland holiday package for?

Summit Adventure is for active travellers –couples, friends or solo – in good physical condition who have a valid driver’s license and want a guided, all-inclusive week in Muonio and the northest part of Finnish Lapland with Harriniva Hotels & Safaris, featuring longer snowmobile drives through beautiful wilderness, great chances to see the Northern Lights, and the goal of reaching Finland’s highest fell, Halti.

2. What’s included in the package price?

3. How do airport transfers work?

We arrange return transfers between Kittilä Airport or Kolari Railway Station and your resort. Share your flight numbers and arrival and departure times as soon as possible, so we can arrange your pick-up and transfer schedule.

4. What should I pack ?

You should pack these base and mid-layers:

  • long thermal underwear
  • thin turtleneck pullover
  • fleece or woollen shirt and trousers
  • thick, warm pullover
  • warm woollen or thermal socks (avoid cotton socks and nylon tights)
  • thin gloves to wear under the thick gloves provided
  • thick winter hat or beanie
  • scarf or snood for neck and face

Useful extras:

  • neck pouch for phone and camera
  • bathing suit (needed for Arctic Sauna World or if you would like to visit the outdoor jacuzzi at Harriniva Adventure Resort)
  • sunglasses and sun lotion in spring

5. What winter gear is provided?

We provide winter clothing for all guests:

  • warm winter overall
  • snow boots and a pair of woollen socks

6. Is this package suitable for children?

No—Summit Adventure isn’t suitable for children. It’s designed for adults in good physical condition, with long days in the wilderness and snowmobile driving requirements (valid driver’s license)

7. Do I need prior snowmobile driving experience?

You do not need prior snowmobile driving experience. Before setting off, your guide gives a full safety briefing and introduces you to the snowmobiles to make sure everyone feels confident for the days ahead.

You do need to be an adult with a valid driving licence, and the expedition is designed for adults in good physical condition because the days are long and the terrain and weather can be demanding.

8. What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations and changes for both online bookings and bookings made through our sales team are handled according to Harriniva Hotels & Safaris’ General Terms & Conditions. Please review the terms before confirming your booking, and contact us if you need to discuss changing your dates.

9. What meals are included, and can you cater for dietary needs?

Meals are included on a full board basis during your stay. Complimentary coffee and tea are also included.

Yes, we can cater for most dietary needs and allergies. Please inform us about any dietary requirements and allergies in advance at the time of booking, so we can confirm the arrangements with the restaurant team.

These guided winter activities are included in the package:

12. Do I need a driving licence for snowmobile safaris?

Yes. To drive a snowmobile, the driver must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driving licence for category B.

13. How physically demanding is this package?

Summit Adventure is physically demanding. It is an expedition-style snowmobile adventure with long days on the trail, covering around 100–140 km per day, and each participant drives their own snowmobile throughout the trip. Over the five expedition days, conditions can change from calm and clear to demanding Arctic weather, so participants should be prepared for the elements while our professional wilderness guides focus on safety throughout.

14. Is there a self-liability amount for snowmobile safaris?

Yes. Snowmobile safaris have a self-liability of up to 1200 € per snowmobile.

15. What happens if the weather changes?

Harriniva Hotels & Safaris may adjust timetables and programmes due to weather, safety, or other unforeseen reasons.  Routes and schedules may change due to weather and conditions. Safety comes first, and the guide adapts the plan when needed.

16. Can I add extra activities before or after the expedition?

Often yes, subject to availability and your travel schedule. If you want to add activities, tell us your preferences and timing when you request availability. We also recommend booking a few extra nights before and/or after the expedition to make the most of your stay in Lapland.

 

17. I’m not sure which package to choose, can you recommend one?

18. What are the overnights like during the expedition?

Overnights are in comfortable cabins or apartments along the route, typically with a sauna so you can warm up after long days on the trail. The first and last nights are spent at Harriniva Adventure Resort (or a nearby resort) in shared rooms or cabins with private sleeping areas and shared bathrooms and showers, and upgrades may be available for these nights.
